It is snowing today, April 6th, in South Alaska. The amount of posts about the weather among my own small group of friends is pretty incredible, I wonder what the sum of all related posts is. Still more surprising is that I have yet to see one positive thing said about the snow, even among a collective group of people who, I believe, would consider themselves "cheery," "easy going," or, in the very least, "generally happy." Sure, some posts are less negative than others, but no one has said that this snow is a good thing.
The snow in April is a good thing. It's amazing, actually, and although it may be slightly inconvenient to our schedule, it is nonetheless a beautiful wonder. To look out our windows and see anything but a miracle would be disappointing. Six-year-old me would be ecstatic at the sight of all that powdered sugar, one last "Hoorah!" Before the winter's end. As we grow we learn how to budget our time, how to fit everything in. We create busy schedules or even empty ones. We get so caught up in our own calendar that a natural phenomena is now a disturbance. Peace, wonder, and play is replaced with frustration and anxiety.
This weather is inviting us to relinquish control, to let ourselves be swept up in the beauty that doesn't fit in our plans. Give up your stress and give in to God's love.
And of course, be happy :)
